There was widespread sadness at the sudden death last week of Fr Martin Kenny, PE, at his residence, Our Lady of Lourdes Presbytery, Hardman’s Gardens Drogheda.

There was widespread sadness at the sudden death last week of Fr Martin Kenny, PE, at his residence, Our Lady of Lourdes Presbytery, Hardman’s Gardens Drogheda.

Fr Kenny was well-known in Louth GAA. He played a key role in developments in Faughart parish where he was parish priest for seven years.

Fr Kenny was born in 1935, in the parish of Ballyforan, in the diocese of Elphin.

He was ordained 11 July 1965 at Clonliffe College Dublin for the Institute of Charity (Rosminian) Order.

He was on the staff of St Michael’s College Omeath from 1965 to 1986. He was chaplain at Portmarnock Community School from 1986 – 1989 and parish priest in Faughart from 1989 to 1996.

He became parish priest of Mell from 1996 to 2010.

He was Pastor Emeritus (residing in Drogheda) from 2010 until his death.

After reposing at Our Lady of Lourdes Church Drogheda for 7.30 pm Mass on Thursday evening, requiem Mass took place in the church on Friday followed by burial in St Peter’s cemetery.

He is survived by brothers Jack (Wales) Peter (Ballyforan) and Jimmy (New York), sisters-in-law Vera, Maureen and Maura, nephews, nieces, Cardinal Sean Brady, Archbishop Eamon Martin, Priest colleagues of St Peter’s Parish Drogheda and the Archdiocese of Armagh parishioners.
