Moorehall Lodge Ardee have been named in the top five per cent of nursing homes in Ireland and the UK thanks to their unique work in the field of dementia care.
Moorehall Lodge’s specialist dementia care was granted level one status after a recent audit by Dementia Care Matters – a result achieved by only five out of every hundred homes surveyed and audited by the organisation.
As a result of the audit, Moorehall Lodge has retained the title of Ireland’s only accredited Butterfly Centre.
Dementia Care Matters have been working with Moorehall Lodge for the past few years to develop the highest standards of care available in Ireland, tailored to the specific needs of people living with dementia and their families.
This specialist dementia care extends through the Moorehall Living range of services at Drogheda, Ardee and Homecare.
The observational audit report was fulsome in its praise for the care and ethos practiced by the Moorehall Lodge team in the Suaimhneas dementia-specific household.
“It was a pleasure to observe a day in the life of this house with so many wonderful interactions between people as they shared the day,” said the auditor’s report.
“The team works incredibly hard with a commendable fluidity of roles and the home maker role is pivotal in creating the heart of the house where everyone is warmly welcomed.
“There were some inspirational and emotional moments in the day which were a privilege and a joy to witness.”
Members of staff in Ardee were thrilled to accept the auditor’s comments, and the Butterfly Award, the culmination of a long journey over a number of years.
“In Moorehall Lodge Ardee, and Moorehall Lodge Drogheda, we provide specialist care to include activities for residents with dementia-related conditions,” said Natasha Bloore, Acting Director of Care.
“Our approach is to live in the moment – capturing the essence of that moment using visual triggers to stimulate recollections and to make emotional connections for that person. “Our Butterfly Approach is to ultimately improve the quality of that person’s life allowing them to live their life to the full.
“We were particularly delighted when the report highlighted that all members of the team, showed wonderful love and warmth and create an atmosphere that feels very much like a family or a community of people sharing the day together.”
Sean McCoy CEO Moorehall Living Group was delighted with the top grading and by the efforts and skill displayed by our staff.
On the day of the audit staff from most parts of the nursing home were involved in the assessment showing that our expertise in dementia care goes beyond Suaimhneas Household.
