The construction of a new school cafeteria in Coláiste Rís will deliver top class catering facilities to over five hundred pupils.
The school’s principal, Padraig Hamill, said that he hoped the facility will be open in April 2014.
“We expect the construction to be finished by the end of April next year,” said Mr Hamill, “It will seat around 150 students, possibly more than that in a separate area.”
The new cafeteria will also introduce changes to the schools policy regarding pupils going for lunch outside the school.
“Our current first year students aren’t permitted to go outside the school at lunchtime,” explained Mr Hamill, “ Other students may find it hard at first to adjust but safety of our students is number one priority and parents can be assured that they are safe.
“It’ll be a great advantage to all students as it gives them the option to stay inside the school.
“Our senior students will still have the privilege of going out for lunch, if they behave themselves.”
The school study hall has been demolished to make way for the facility and the gym hall is now a temporary lunch area.
