Moorehall Lodge nursing home Ardee has achieved an amazing double at the Nursing Homes Ireland Care Awards.
Care Manager Natasha Bloore and carer Chrissy Barron both took the top honours in separate categories in the prestigious national awards.
Natasha won the Nursing Home Innovations in Dementia Care Award.
Chrissy took the Nursing Home Carer of the Year Award.
The latter award was won last year by Geraldine Clinton, also from Moorehall Lodge Ardee.
Over 300 nominations were put forward from people in communities across Ireland for the nine categories at the NHI Care Awards.
“We are thrilled with the awards – they are a great reflection on the unique care that all the team at Moorehall Lodge provide,” said Chrissy.
“We couldn’t believe it when our names were called out.
“To win one category is amazing, but two was far beyond what we dared to wish for.
“We are all very passionate about our work and are very proud of the unique and warm care environment we have created where people really flourish.”
Natasha said that the Innovations in Dementia Care Award is an unexpected but fantastic recognition of the journey that residents, families and staff have undertaken over the past few years.
“To get this national recognition really caps a fantastic year,” said Natasha.
“This year we were awarded the status of Ireland’s only accredited Butterfly Centre thanks to our unique work in the field of dementia care.
“Our approach is to live in the moment – capturing the essence of that moment using visual triggers to stimulate recollections and to make emotional connections for that person.
“We have operated and developed the Butterfly Approach over the past two years.
“It has ultimately improved the quality of people’s lives, allowing them to live their life to the full.
“We are very proud of the journey that we have undertaken in Moorehall Lodge Ardee, and now Drogheda, and believe that we have set a good precedent in national dementia care.”
Moorehall Lodge Ardee Director of Care Carol McLoughlin was thrilled with the double awards.
“These awards will mean so much to the entire team at Moorehall Lodge Ardee.
This is a team that has always included staff, residents and their families,” said Carol.
“This sense of family defines our care and we couldn’t be happier that this has been recognised on a national stage.
“Natasha and Chrissy are spontaneous, natural, and born carers, and valued members of a highly effective team which we are incredibly proud of.
“We have worked exceptionally hard to provide the highest standards of dementia care.
“And we are honoured that our unique approach has been recognised by the highest awards in our sector.”
