Gardaí have launched a probe into a vicious home invasion which saw a business man and his family terrorised in their home in Castleblayney.
Two men entered the home of a local restaurant manager in Castleblayney at approximately 9.30pm on Sunday night.
The Monaghan Democrat understands that the men assaulted and threatened the restaurant manager and his family, which included his wife and two young children; a girl and a boy.
The children were locked in a cupboard during the traumatic attack.
The criminals demanded cash and threatened to kill the man and his family, before ransacking the house.
A spokesperson for the Gardaí confirmed that an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
None of the family are thought to have been badly injured in the attack, and no family members received medical assistance according to the Gardaí.
The male victim is the manager of a local Chinese restaurant, and is well known in Castleblayney.
