Green Party finance spokesperson, former senator, and Dundalk town councillor Mark Dearey, will run in the expansive Midlands-North West constituency in the european elections in May.

The party held its selection convention in Dublin on Saturday. Cllr Dearey is one of four candidates selected to run in four constituencies here and in the North.

“The European elections are a really important event, as both North and South, everyone on this island gets to vote for their future,” Cllr Dearey said.

“We have strong links with our Northern Irish Green Party, but we are also interconnected across Europe.

“We’re linked in with Green organisations across the European Union and together we can be an incredibly strong voice for people against the centre-right majority. Green MEPs have been among the most vocal opponents of the ECB and Commission austerity agenda and the need for a strong and united opposition to these ideas is critical.

“I believe in Europe and I believe that with all your help and hard work, together we can effect real change for Irish people,” Cllr Dearey told delegates at the selection convention.
