Film nominated for BAFTA award

Colin Carberry and Glenn Patterson, writers of the film, Good Vibrations which was partially shot in locations around Dundalk have been nominated for a BAFTA.

The film tells the story of Terri Hooley who championed Northern Ireland punk music bands, including the Undertones, in the 1970s and has received a nomination in the category of ‘Outstanding Debut by a British, Writer, Director or Producer’.

Areas around Dundalk such as Broughton Street, Mountpleasant Hall, Seatown, Priorland and the Spirit Store were used for filming because of their similarity with areas of Belfast. Hollywood actor Michael Fassbender plays Hooley in the film and he and a number of other star names were in Dundalk for the shoot in September of 2011.

The BAFTA Awards take place on Sunday, 16 February at the Royal Opera House in London’s Covent Garden and will be broadcast on BBC1.
