The late Dr Tom O’Callaghan, former Consultant Physician, Louth County Hospital, Dundalk, was one of the county’s most distinguished physicians.
Dr O’Callaghan was central to many fundraisers for the Louth County Hospital.
In the early 1990s he led an appeal for equipment for the Louth County Hospital and in 2003 he was involved in fundraising for a miniature portable cardiac monitor, along with fundraisers Aideen Lynch and the late Claire Bishop.
Aideen and Claire then formed a committee with the full support of Dr O’Callaghan in 2005 for the CT Scanner Appeal in association with The Dundalk Democrat.
He received the Hall of Fame Award at the County Louth Bank of Ireland/Rehab People of the Year Awards in The Fairways Hotel in December 2003.
He retired in 2007.
Dr O’Callaghan, Green Road, Dromiskin, was buried at Haggardstown cemetery after requiem Mass at St Fursey’s Church on Wednesday last 24 July.
There were many messages of sympathy and condolences to his wife Ann, son Gareth and daughter Evelyn.
