It was a very successful week for the local angling community, as Ireland took silver in the World Youth Championship this week on the River Fane.

Knockbridge angler Michael Conroy, under the guidance of team manager Terry Kelly, paved the way for Ireland’s success.

The River Fane also produced the most wild brown trout over any other river in the competition.

“It has been an excellent week for local angling and for the Dundalk Brown Trout Anglers,” said Patrick Tennyson, Secretary of the championship committee, “Everybody involved was very impressed with the standards of the rivers and the local community.

“It was a very competitive event and some of the young anglers would give the seniors a run for their money.”

This is a stepping stone for future events, he added.
