The managers of the newly integrated local Xtra-vision and HMV at the Longwalk have donated a new Kawai piano to the Dundalk School of Music.

Patricia Duffy of Dundalk School of Music and some of her pupils joined Barbara McGowan, store manager, for the official presentation of the piano to the school.

Speaking at the presentation, Barbara McGowan, Store Manager of Xtra-vision & HMV, Dundalk said: “Xtra-vision and HMV are delighted to present this fantastic Kawai piano to the Dundalk School of Music.

“As the home of entertainment retail in Ireland, we are committed to profiling Irish music at all levels – from in-store performances by Irish acts, to supporting music development at a local level and our donation of a piano to the Dundalk School of Music reflects this commitment.

“We hope that the piano helps the school to continue its excellent work in the Dundalk area.”

Patricia Duffy, owner of the Dundalk School of Music said: “DSM’s piano department takes pride in its pool of gifted and accomplished pianists amongst its faculty and students. We sincerely thank Hilco Capital for their vote of confidence in providing the school with such a tremendous instrument as we continue to strive for excellence in music education.”

Dundalk School of Music opened its doors to the public in 2009.

Patricia Duffy’s family has been involved in music and musical education for many generations. The school was borne out of a love of music, with the desire to bring musical enrichment to an area that has a long and distinguished musical heritage.

Since inception the school has gone from strength to strength, moving to a purpose built facility in 2011.

The school’s success is based on Patricia’s central belief that music is for everyone, irrespective of age, level or experience. This is evidenced by the diversity of students attending the school, with students ranging in age from 4 to 70 and in level from beginner right through to professional.

The school caters for students wishing to receive a formal education as well as for those determined to learn that tune they’ve always wanted to be able to play. This is the secret behind the success story that is Dundalk School of Music.

Dundalk School of Music is endorsed by internationally renowned musicians such as John Sheahan of The Dubliners, fiddle player Gerry O’Connor, singer/song-writer Liam Reilly, classical guitarist Pat Coldrick and The Corr Family.
