Last week the children at Toddler’s Hill Montessori Crèche in Ardee, donned their aprons and chefs hats for their first school food workshop.

Last week the children at Toddler’s Hill Montessori Crèche in Ardee, donned their aprons and chefs hats for their first school food workshop.

The workshop was presented by Richard Luckey, who is head chef at Tankardstown in Slane.

“I was aware of the healthy eating policy at Toddlers Hill,” said Richard, “everything is cooked from fresh and I thought the workshop was something that Jeanne and the Toddlers team would be interested in”.

Richard is a strong believer in introducing real foods to children at a very early age.

“Instilling wholesome and healthy eating habits in children can be made fun and entertaining,” he explained.

“This will open up their palates and have long term benefits in their overall health and wellbeing”.

Jeanne Thorne, Director of Toddlers Hill was delighted that the day was such a success with children.

“We were very excited about the workshop, it is a great opportunity for the children to have a professional chef in and Tankardstown House has been very supportive of this project,” said Jeanne.

“They also sponsored a voucher for a raffle among the children and gave goodie bags from their bakery ‘Slane Bake’ for all the parents who volunteered.”

The workshop was definitely a great success and the children enjoyed the bread baking and butter churning and the sweet and sour tasting game had a great reaction”.

“We had ten parents volunteering on the morning and it was great fun for the children.

A particular thanks to Tankardstown House for their kind sponsorship of the workshop and releasing Richard to be our chef for the day.”
