THE recent Spring Gardening Workshop at O’Callaghan’s Edible Garden, Greengates, Blackrock, held as part of the Brigid of Faughart Festival was a great way for participants to welcome the Spring and get motivated for the new growing season.
As St. Brigid’s Day, or the ancient festival of Imbolc, was the traditional start of spring in the Celtic calendar, what better time to start planning for the gardening year.
Workshop facilitators Roisin Cotter and Damien O’Callaghan, gave lots of tips and advice on how to get your garden ready for sowing seeds and growing your own vegetables this year.
Roisin and Damien are both keen advocates of growing your own food as organically as possible and described how to make the most of your garden to grow your own clean and healthy food without the use of chemicals.
The workshop also looked at how to build a herb spiral, make organic fertiliser, plant garlic, save your own seeds, build a ‘No Dig Bed’, make compost and grow the gourmet vegetable Jerusalem Artichokes.
Roisin and Damien will be running an Organic Gardening Course for Beginners later this Spring. If you would like to find out more, please contact Roisin on email@example.com or Tel: 087 136 3224.
