Community service for two who
possessed stolen scrap metal

Two men who admitted possessing scrap metal that had been stolen from a builder’s premises in Newry, were sentenced to 150 hours at Dundalk district court last Wednesday. Twenty-six year old Hugh Maguire formerly of Woodland Park, Dundalk and now living in Cork and Stephen Maguire (22) of Maple Close, Avenue Road, Dundalk pleaded guilty to possessing stolen property at Newtownbalregan, Dundalk on the 18th of February last.

The court previously heard that three men were in a vehicle stopped near the Castleblayney road exit of the M1 motorway and approximately €150 worth of scrap metal was recovered

The earlier hearing was told Hugh Maguire tried to escape, but was apprehended on the grounds of Dundalk Rugby Club and both accused each had €200 in court to show their remorse.
