This year’s DkIT Sports and Societies Awards evening took place in the Crowne Plaza on Thursday, March 21, with over 50 sports clubs and societies and over 200 guests attending the Black Tie Event.
The awards night is held to acknowledge and recognise students, staff and individuals for their contribution and dedication to the DkIT Sports and Societies over the academic year.
This is Dundalk IT’s 7th annual awards night and the guest speaker at the event was the well renowned Dublin Footballer, Mr Brian Mullins, who presented the main awards on the evening.
“I would like to thank all the speakers on the evening and all the Dundalk IT students for their involvement and dedication to their Sports clubs and societies in 2012/2013”, said DkIT Sports and Societies officer, Ciara Patterson who hosted the evening.
The evening commenced with a minutes silence to remember Mr Ian McKeever, former guest speaker at the awards, as he tragically passed away in January of this year.
DkIT Registrar, Ann Campbell, said a few words and thanked all in attendance for being involved in DkIT’s Sports and Societies and for their hard work and commitment to their chosen sport or society.
There has been a lot of activity on campus during the second semester from the notorious Fit 4 Life Programme, to the newly introduced 3km walk/run.
Highlights of these events were shown throughout the awards evening.
Guest speaker, Brian Mullins, spoke about how each individual involved in third level sports and societies make a huge contribution to college life and also life away from college.
He also encouraged all students to remain dedicated to their chosen sport or society as this can stand to them once they graduate and help them build communities both on and off campus.
After Brian had spoken, the Main Awards of the Evening were presented.
On the night, certain students were also awarded with Individual Achievement Awards to acknowledge those who put in the extra effort within their club or society.
