Dunleer Athletic club’s senior women’s’ team claimed victory at the Mountpleasant AC Easter Monday road races.
Leading the team home in 2nd place was Karen Costello who has been in great form in recent weeks. Next across the line for the mid-Louth club was Sandra Doheny, followed by ever reliable Helen Cheshire. Sandra Doheny took third in the over 40 category. In the men’s race Shane Walsh was with the leaders for much of the race and lead the men’s team to a well earned second place behind a very strong North East Runners team. Shane was well supported by Graham Townsend, Pat Fitzpatrick, Anthony Connolly and Garrett Murray.
Earlier in very cold and windy arctic conditions the club’s juvenile athletes race brilliantly winning the first three races in succession, Erin Leavy in the the girls U8, Matthew Fitzpatrick in the boys U8 and Grace Fitzpatrick in the girls under U10. Oisín Cheshire took silver in the boy’s under-10, as did Jack Boylan in the boys under 16. Finn Reilly finished in 4th place in the boys under-14 and should be well pleased with his performance.
Next weekend Dunleer will be represented in the national relay finals in Athlone by the boys under 17 4x 200m team. Conor McBride, Garry Campbell, Jack Boylan and Shane Cheshire make up the quartet and will no doubt do themselves and their club proud.
