Louth Fianna Fáil Deputy Seamus Kirk has commended the gardaí involved in a significant drugs and weapons swoop in Co Louth.
Deputy Kirk was commenting after gardaí from Dundalk and Ardee raided a derelict house near Kilsaran and seized drugs, explosives, weapons and ammunition.
“This is yet another reminder of the excellent work carried out by our local gardaí here in Louth every single day. This was a significant seizure of dangerous and illegal materials that could have caused serious harm at the hands of criminal thugs,” said Deputy Kirk.
“The gardaí involved in intelligence work and community policing across Co Louth face particular risks in the course of their work. This latest raid is a reminder of the work they do every single day to keep us all safe. It is a reminder of the need to protect our community garda resources and support the gardaí in their daily work.
“I am calling on the Justice Minister Alan Shatter to recognise the specific risks involved in policing in the border region. His continued attack on local garda resources and his attempts to dismiss the genuine concerns of the garda force will only undermine the vital work that gardaí do on behalf of all of us. And it is our local communities that will ultimately pay the price.”
