Encore Productions proudly present ‘Pinocchio’, a brand new production devised and performed by 44 fine actors from RehabCare resource centre Dundalk.

Drama coordinator Sandy Sneddon spoke to the Dundalk Democrat and told us that RehabCare provides services and resources for adults with intellectual disabilities.

“We have two resource centres in Louth and over 100 service users between them.

“We help service users learn different skills such as how to live independently, gain employment, personal development skills, sport and arts.

“Drama is a big part of what we do and the group at the Carroll Village Resource Centre have written, produced and directed the whole show themselves.

“They are very excited about performing the show live in front of audiences.

“Some of the group have been involved in productions for ten years now and are well established while others are performing for the first time.”

Sandy told the Democrat that a huge amount of work has gone into this production and that the group started putting the show together in January.

“After they went to see ‘Cinderella’ at Christmas last year they decided they really wanted to do a pantomime so we started doing workshops for a half hour each day dedicated to this.

“This is where they got all their ideas for the puppets and magic spells and they decided that ‘Pinocchio’ was the best choice for what they wanted to do.

“They started doing artwork, poems, improvisation, taking photos and videos and then decided what they would include and leave out. They even started to build the set.

“The final script was written in the summer and they have been rehearsing three days a week for the past three months.

“There is a group of 55 which have been involved in every process from script writing and editing to acting and building the set. A huge amount of time and effort has gone into this show.”
