Dundalk man Oliver O’Donoghue set up ‘Without Limits School of Internal & External Martial Arts’ last October. Oliver runs classes for male and female adults and for primary (6-12 years old) and secondary school (12-18 years old) students.
Oliver says that the benefits of martial arts are not only physical but mental and can help children in their personal development and teach them moral consequence.
“My classes are both beneficial for the physical and mental state of a person. I concentrate on breathing, focusing energy, de-stressing, relaxation techniques as well as body work.”
It is important for people to start taking their health into their own hands and taking control of their lives. Their is no point in waiting until you fall ill to take action.
If you know your family has a history of a certain condition, say heart problems, then don’t wait, cultivate a practice to make that area healthier. As an old chinese proverb says ‘You don’t get sick in a day’.”
Along with classes Oliver also works one-on-one with people to help them deal with individual issues.
“I work one-on-one with people and help them to deal with issues regarding high blood pressure, kidney, bladder, liver, spleen, heart and so forth.
I try to take people out of their heads and get them in touch with their bodies.”
Oliver’s classes and one-on-one sessions are for both the young and the old, no fitness level is required as he provides and safe and structured start point.
“There is a misconception that young people have more energy, this is not necessarily true. If you cultivate your energy while you are young then you will have more energy and become stronger as you age.”
Martial Arts kids classes are starting back this week on Thursday in Dealgan Hall.
Classes for primary school students begin at 3.15pm and classes for secondary school students begin at 4.30pm. There will also be fitness classes in the Strong Room Fitness and Wellness Centre on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7.30pm.
