Local Lass Laura Cronin is hosting a Waxathon night in Jackie Murphys in aid of the charity Global Brigades.

Laura is currently enrolled in her 2nd year in General Nursing in DKIT and is going to Ghana for ten days in August as a medical brigade volunteer, through the charity Global Brigades.

Global Brigades is the world’s largest Student Led Development Organization and has recruited over twelve thousand volunteers.

It operates nine separate brigades which are Medical, Dental, Public Health, Micro-Finance, Business, Environmental, Architecture, Water and Law.

Laura told the Dundalk Democrat that the brigade she is travelling with is in fact “the very first medical brigade travelling from Ireland” and she chose this brigade “as it allows me to put the theory, skills and knowledge that I’ve learned so far in my nursing career to practical use.”

In order to get herself to Ghana, Laura must first raise 1,500 euro which she has been holding various fundraising events for including a coffee morning in 23 Seats and a non-uniform day in St Marys NS, Knockbridge.

Her main fundraiser is her Waxathon night which is being held this Saturday July 7th in Jackie Murphy’s Bar and Restaurant.

The night will kick off at 8pm with live music by local musician, Sinead Mc Nally.

Then some local lads are all taking to the table to get various parts of their bodies waxed!

Throughout the night Dundalk FMs presenter, Peter Carroll is going to get everybody up on the dancefloor for some serious craic and banter.

There will also be a raffle on the night with some fantastic spot prizes and plenty of food to nibble on.

Everybody is welcome to come and tickets are just €10.00 and available from any of the lads taking part in this event, Dundalk FM, Jackie Murphys, New Faces or you can get in contact with Laura Cronin at lcron10@student.dkit.ie/0872454567

Laura would like to thank all the local businesses who got behind her and donated generously for the raffle which will be held on the night, Jackie Murphys for hosting the night, New Faces and their beautician Diane Murphy for generously sponsoring the event, Dundalk Fm for advertising and Sinead Mc Nally and Peter Carroll for offering entertainment.

If anyone would like to make a donation they can do so by visiting www.empowered.org/Laura-Cronin or or you can transfer money into the AIB charity bank account
