Clubs and organisations in Louth have submitted 60 applications, seeking more than e4.7million

“This year, the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport received more than 2,100 applications from clubs and sports groups all over the country, seeking a total of e224 million in funding. But unfortunately, due to the economic constraints we face, the fund is limited to e30 million.

“So of course, every application in Louth won’t be successful. But a number of clubs will certainly benefit from funding to help them with the buying of new equipment and the upkeep of facilities. A number of factors will be taken into account when assessing applications, including the likely benefit on participants, the level of disadvantage in the club’s area and whether facilities will be shared with other clubs.

“Applications are now being processed, and groups in Louth can expect to receive acknowledgements shortly. The Department says it’s expected to be the late autumn or early winter before the successful applicants are known.

“Although there will be some refusals, I am hopeful that as many clubs as possible in Louth can benefit from this very worthwhile funding. Final allocations will be made known by the Department as soon as
