Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams TD speaking during Leaders Questions in the Dáil this week accused the government of pursuing austerity policies that are failing people and failing the economy.

Deputy Adams challenged the Taoiseach to “abandon these failed austerity policies and tear up the huge cheques amounting to €4.3 billion that will be paid out over the next few weeks to Anglo Irish Bank and to unguaranteed and unsecured bondholders.

“The government’s policies are not working. This much is evident in the unprecedented levels of unemployment; the numbers of young people that are immigrating; the crisis in our health and education systems; the attack on our public services; and the debacle around pensions.”
