A DUNDALK restaurant has launched a pizza apprentice competition for local Transition Year students which will raise funds for a number of charities.

The Eno’ Pizza Apprentice competition is open to TY students in O’Fiaich College, St Vincent’s Secondary School, St Louis Secondary School, and The Marist to develop a pizza.

Pictured are competing St Vincent’s students Jane Byrne, Kerrie Campbell, Kate Whelan, Rachel Vernon, and Jenny Gray, whose pizza is titled ‘The Italian Trio’.

The competition is set to run at Eno’ Bar & Grill, 5 Roden Place, until Sunday, April 15. The teams have been working with their Home Economics teachers to develop their initial concept for the pizza competition.

They have been given access to Eno’s trained, in-house pizza chef and the management team for a number of consultations in relation to the pizza recipe, pricing, promotion, charity link-up, plus a unique behind-the-scenes insight into the restaurant trade.

Each team has chosen a charity to which their pizza will be linked and a proportion of the sale price of each of their pizzas sold will be donated to that charity.

Each team’s pizza will remain on the menu for 11 days, from Thursday to the following Sunday. The winning pizza will be based on a combination of sales and votes via the Eno’ Facebook page.

The winning pizza will stay on the Eno’ menu until the end of the acadamic year 2012. In addition, the proceeds to the charity will continue to be made during that period.

The winning student team will have contributed to the success of the project and will be invited for a meal in Eno’. This will also include up to four nominated staff members from the winning school.

There are two additional prize categories including ‘Best Marketing’ and a prize for naming the competition, which was awarded to St Louis’ Secondary School which came up with the name “Eno’ Pizza Apprentice”.

According to the Management of Eno’ Bar & Grill, they have been very impressed by the “approach and professionalism” of the participating teams and their schools.

“We wish all of the participants the very best of luck in this exciting and challenging competition,” said Eno spokesperson.
