Ardee Educate Together NS has been awarded the Active School Flag for PE and Sports. The Active School Flag programme is a Department of Education initiative which seeks to recognise schools that provide quality P.E., physical activity and sports programmes. This is the very first flag of its kind to be raised in Louth.
The Educate Together pupils formed a committee, completed review and action plans and held an Active School Week as part of the initiative. They also formed links with local sports clubs to provide coaching in various sporting activities for pupils. A very successful Be Active After School Club is run between 3pm and 4pm every Thursday. Players from the Senior Louth Football team officially raised the flag on Monday 20th June at 2pm. The school is going to have a huge party to celebrate the event at the end of term.
Ardee Educate Together were recently crowned Lidl Fit Factor champions and winners of 5,000 euro of sports equipment.
This was a fun competition designed to promote healthy eating and physical activity, developed in conjunction with the Irish Heart Foundation.
Ardee Educate Together were chosen as overall winners over four other primary schools from across the country.
“Taking part in the Lidl Fit Factor this year was extremely enjoyable and most rewarding for my class,” said teacher Jamie O’Hare.
