OVER 2,200 books have been donated to the new library at Scoil Mhuire na nGael in Bay Estate, Dundalk.

The Parents and Friends Committee of Scoil Mhuire na nGael organised the successful “Donate A Book” scheme.

The new library is due to open next September when the school building project will be completed.

Scoil Mhuire na nGael Principal Martina Rafferty praised the school’s Parents and Friends Committee for the efforts with the book scheme.

“The response to the “Donate A Book” scheme was superb, so thank you to the children and parents who so generously donated books for our library and to our hard working Parents and Friends Commitee who organised the event,” she said.

Ms Rafferty also thanked staff, pupils and the parent body for their “efforts, energy and enthusiasm” for World Book Day, which was held on March 3.

“ It was a fantastic occasion with staff and pupils really getting in to the spirit of the day. The children loved all the activities and it was an ideal opportunity to encourage more children to experience the joy of reading and storytelling in an age of playstations, iPods and other electronic devices.”
