The Fairways hotel was awash with red on Saturday night as Dundalk dancing school Scoil Rince Móna Ní Rodaigh celebrated a year of astounding successes in the world of competitive Irish dance.

This past 12 months have seen the school once again confirm its place as one of the world’s finest as dancers were crowned Ulster, Irish National and World Champions.

Saturday night saw the dancers, their parents and their teachers take to the tiles in an effort to celebrate all the hard work and, of course, the rewards they reaped in return.

The evening began with a presentation of certificates to all dancers who had participated in ‘Grade examinations’ earlier in the day. Far from the stereotypical ‘feis’ world, grade exams test the dancers’ skills in a more conventional exam setting and students were then presented with certificates depicting the grades they achieved.

After a tremendous pre-party traditional music session, featuring many of the school’s multi talented dancers, festivities began with acknowledgements of the many successes throughout the year.

In particular however the school was celebrating the massive haul of 4 World Globes which were won at the World Championships in London earlier this year.

From the youngest age-group (sub-minor U11) to Senior, there were two 3rd place globes, one 2nd place and the ultimate prize for the Junior Mixed ceili (u16) – World champions.

An incredible cake to celebrate the school’s achievements was provided by Joanne Brodigan of Londis, Quay st and presentations were made to the world champions from their teachers. This was followed by a repeat performance of the teams winning dance and a ‘step down the line’ from the school’s students.

This was then followed by dancing of a different kind with families letting their hair down and having a ball on the night.

Classes at the world-renowned Scoil Rince Mona Ni Rodaigh will resume for the autumn this week with locations in Dundalk, Crossmaglen, Drumconrath and Knockbridge. New beginners welcome. For further information contact 086 8242670.
