CLLR Oliver Morgan wants the Minister for the Environment to defer the implementation of the Property tax.

The councillor put a motion before the town council asking that Dundalk Town Council call on government to defer the tax as it has done with the water charges in recognition of “the dire financial stricture (sic) which currently afflicts the ordinary people of Ireland”.

Cathaoirleach Jennifer Green said she could not support the motion of deferral because her party Sinn Fein did not believe there should be a property tax in the first place.

Cllr Mark Dearey believed the whole thing was deeply flawed and the government should come up with an alternative emans of raising money.

Many people who did not pay the 100 euro household charge have rushed in late payments as they feared they could be audited and might even have to pay fines.
