Louth Local Authorities are investing in the region of 77,000 euros to help bring tourists to Louth as part of The Gathering, through direct grants as well as logistical and promotional support to organisations hosting events.
In addition, Louth Local Authorities is supporting the hosting of several events of its own to boost tourism in the county, including the Drogheda Arts Festival, Ardee Baroque Festival, The Táin March, Thomas D’Arcy McGee Summer School and a Genealogy and Ancestry Conference in the county library
“Tourism is a key driver of economic growth and a vital source of income to County Louth,” said Joan Martin, County Manager.
“That’s why we are investing heavily in providing the necessary infrastructure and support for events that bring tourists to the County and in promotional activities at home and abroad such as attending trade shows, applying for international awards such as Entente Florale and twinning with cities like Lapua, Finland and Saint Mande, Paris, France.”
Cllr. Finnan McCoy, Cathaoirleach Louth County Council also welcomed all tourists who may visit the wee county this year.

“The international profile of the Gathering provides us with a fantastic opportunity in Louth to showcase our county to new tourists and to show returning emigrants the extensive progress we have made in recent years.”

Carlingford International Pipe Band Gathering, Drogheda Fringe and Maritime Festival, Dundalk and Meath Underage Football Festival, Gaelic Gathering for An Póc Fada, Gaolers and Inmates – the retelling of the story of Dundalk Goal, John Boyle O’Reilly Drogheda/Boston Connection, Land of Legends Race Day at Dundalk Stadium (which took place on Friday night and was a huge success), North South Fest, The Gathering History Project, World Youth Fly Fishing Championships 2013, National Leprechaun Hunt in Carlingford, Drogheda Samba Festival, Louth Land of Legends Nautical Gathering Event, Brigid’s Way Spiritual Walk, Canadian Irish Economic Conference, Mornington Gospel Gathering in the TLT, Drogheda, Drogheda Fenian’s Return, East Coast Classic, ICA CEO’s Tour to Ireland, Drogheda Fenian’s Return and Callystown National School Reunion
