Resident’s of a usually quiet estate have been left astonished after a huge pile of trees were dumped in the estates green field.
This is the pile of trees that an unknown man dumped at a small field in Grange Close, the Democrat has learned. Because of the community spirit in the street, a resident kindly placed all the trees on his trailor and took the waste to the recycling centre on the Newry Road.
Speaking to the Democrat this week, Sandra Grant, a resident from the area, said ‘I couldn’t believe it, it’s cheeky. It was late in the evening and I looked across to the field and I seen this huge pile of trees, some man was just dragging them across and piling them up, but he was finished by the time I noticed’.
But with the area having a great sense of community, the eye-sore was removed quickly.
‘The green is kept nice and tidy all the time. Thankfully another resident used his trailor to bring it to the recycling centre, which he would have incurred costs in using petrol and gaining access to the centre, but god knows how long it would have taken for the council to move it’, Sandra added.
The residents of the area added that it was a health hazard, with the possibility of winds blowing the trees onto the nearby main road.
Cllr. Kevin Meehan told the Democrat ‘It’s disgraceful really, this area is very quite. Fair play to the resident for taking the waste to the recycling centre in his own time and at his own cost. Unfortunately illegal dumping is on the rise and I would encourage anybody who has information about illegal dumping to contact the Gardai or the council’.
