LOUTH Fine Gael TD Fergus O’Dowd has welcomed the allocation of e192,000 to improve disabled access and energy efficiency at Dundalk swimming pool.
The funding, which will be administered by Dundalk Town Council, will be spent by year end. The grant forms part of e5.3m worth of funding released on Wednesday by Minister of State for Tourism and Sport Michael Ring.
The Minister of State said: “The Department of Tourism and Sport has approved the allocation of funds to improve wheelchair access at the pool, and also increase energy efficiency under the green pools initiative.
“This is part of the Government’s ongoing commitment to helping improve access and facilities for people with disabilities in all areas of life.
“Swimming pools require a large amount of heat, so these grants help pools to become energy efficient...I am happy that these grants will help to sustain jobs...”
