THE residents of Rockmarshall, Bellurgan and Jenkinstown who are actively campaigning against a proposed windfarm on Rockmarshall Mountain have used a slogan coined in The Dundalk Democrat a fortnight ago for their new look sign opposing Gaelectric’s plans to install five turbines in the area.
The initial sign, which appeared on the front page of the Democrat last month read “We Say No” but within days of that article appearing the sign was vandalised with the “We Say No” slogan removed.
That meant that the sign effectively looked like an advertisement for the wind farm but residents have moved quickly to solve the matter and last week replaced the vandalised part of the sign with the new slogan “Right Idea, Wrong Place” which featured as part of The Dundalk Democrat’s recent headline.
The slogan is a quote from Mark Dearey of the Green Party, who said he was in favour of wind farms but not in that area.
One of the residents in the area said they were “appalled” at the damage done to the sign but said their democratic rights would not be tramped on.
