GARDAI in Louth have not taken up hearing confessions, The Democrat can exclusively reveal this week.
Reports in last week’s paper said there had been a number of break-ins in the mid-Louth area, during the day, when houses are unoccupied, and that people should contact gardai and that confessions are available every Saturday at noon and 7pm.
While this is a very serious subject and on no account would we trivialise it, it must be pointed out that an editing error occurred and gardai have not taken up the role of pastors.
Nor has there been a queue of burglars at garda stations to confess their crimes.
The robbers are still out there unfortately, a real danger to all, and busy as ever, so please be vigilant and report anything suspicious to the gardai, and watch out, especially if you know that neighbours are away during the day.
The gardai may not be able to hear confessions, but they are always ready to listen to anybody who has information or is suspicious of something.
And remember too to join or contact the neighbourhood watch scheme if there is one in your area.
