FERDIA Scouts from Ardee have been folowing the true scouting programme and putting others first.
The cubs are encouraged to think of others in the wider community, and they recently raised e435 for SOSAD the charity that helps those affected by suicide.
They raised this money by getting their parents to take part in mini marathon.
The cubs set up camp at the recent Ardee Turfman Festival and presented the cheque to members of the charity.
On the day they also wanted to do something for the famine relief and set up an arts and crafts stall, cake stall and a treasure hunt from which they raised over 100 euro for Concern.
Scouts is a voluntary organisation and depend on fund raising themselves but the Ferdia scouts wanted to do their share to help others too.
“We are now two years up and running with 27 cubs,”
“In September we are opening our beaver section and scout section this will bring our numbers up to 80 children, boys and girls, from the age of 6years to 13 years.
“We will be holding our annual fund raiser on 24 September where we will be hosting coffee at Ardee Castle.
“This money will be used to fund the activities for the young people.
“Our aim is to keep costs as low as possible so that no child is left behind due to financial concerns.”

Next month they open their beaver and scout sections and this will bring numbers up to 80.
