FIANNA FÁIL leader Micheál Martin is urging the party’s councillors and TDs to vote for James Carroll in next month’s Seanad elections.
Carroll narrowly lost the fourth seat to Fine Gael’s Peter Fitzpatrick in the recent general election.
The Louth man is one of three current senators who made it onto Martin’s list of preferred candidates.
Speaking from the Midlands on Monday where he was campaign, Carroll said he was delighted with the endorsement from the Fianna Fáil leader.
“Michéal just informed me last Wednesday that I was on his list of preferential candidates so I was nominated internally by the members of the Oireachtas at that point.
“I was delighted to be given the endorsement though. I had a strong General Election and straight after it I was a bit down but after a few days I started to take more of the positives and now I’ve a hectic two or three weeks ahead of me campaigning.”
Carroll is one of 43 Seanad candidates hoping to be elected by TDs and councillors.
