A Dundalk club is on a mission this holiday season to help local families in their time of need.
The Martial Arts School of Fitness is running their annual toy drive and there is a week left to get the toys in for those families who are less fortunate at this festive time of year.
Chief Instructor Wayne Rutherford hopes that the toy drive, which has been a huge success in the past, will topple last year's amount.
He said: "Every year we donate Christmas presents to Barnardos for the families who are not as fortunate. Just a small present could teach our children the act of generosity and teach them to show compassion for others on this special time of the year. Plus, everyone one that donates a toy will get to attend our Karate Kid workshop for free."
With unemployment levels reaching record highs, many families struggle with finances at this time of year, so Wayne, along with the members of MAS-F are trying their best to help people out.
"Even a little bit goes a long way. Help us gather toys so that struggling local kids families can have a chance to enjoy the holiday season.
"Just make a minimum donation of any toys. Any toy with a learning element make a great choice too. For instance things that need to be made, arts and crafts based."
For those wondering what toy to give or what toys suit what age, Bernardos have produced a special guide to help those donating.
Sensory, soft and activity toys are ideal for infants and toddlers whilst character toys, such as Ben Ten or Dora the Explorer are perfect for children aged three to six.
For older kids, aged seven to nine, board games, books and cars are often donated and for those older than ten, books, jewellery, music and games are preferred gifts.
Wayne added: "If you are donating gifts, could you please bring them to the club before December 20, unwrapped.
"As a result, you will be helping local families and you will improve someone's Christmas with generous gifts"
