There was a major lotto win this week as a customer at a Carrickmacross newsagent purchased a €250,000 winning lotto ticket.

The top prize winner purchased their €4 winning ticket on Tuesday 26 November from Birdy’s Newsagents on Main Street.

The lucky player chose their own numbers. The winning Lotto Plus 2 numbers were 8, 10, 15, 16, 19, 23, and the bonus number 4.

Birdy’s Newsagents has sold three winning tickets previously – worth €160,690 in August 1992, €520,127 in January 1993 and in March 2003 a Lotto Plus 1 top prize winning ticket worth €300,000.

Speaking to the Monaghan Democrat, Colm Birdy said that there was great buzz in the shop as a result of the win.

“There’s a great buzz about the place,” he said.

“Everyone is trying to guess who has won, and wondering who hasn’t come in to work today!

“It wasn’t a quick pick draw so, so my guess is that it is a local person.

“People have already come inand bought a ticket on the back of the win, as the shop is on a bit of lucky streak at the minute.

“We have sold two outright winners before. This ticket is a Lotto plus two draw.

“We also sold a €10,000 scratch card recently, so I guess you could say we are on a bit of a roll.

“We are a bit like that shop down in Skibbereen, who went on to have several winners in a short space of time.

“There’s a great buzz about the place with, everyone is always interested to know and hoping that we will find out.

“As it stands we have just been told that the winning ticket was sold from here.

“They will still be waiting for the person who won to come forward, and then they’ll obviously decide whether or not they will remain anonymous.”

Speaking to the Democrat, on Thursday the National Lottery said: “The winner(s) have not yet come forward, ticketholders have 90 days from the date of the draw to claim their prize. We will be sending out any relevant information once the prize is claimed.
