Dundalk grandmother Briege Quigley scooped €1,000 as the lucky 1,000th passenger on a Matthews bus as the company celebrated the tenth anniversary of their commuter service.
Briege was presented with a €1,000 cheque by managing director Paddy Matthews as she boarded the 12 noon Dundalk, Drogheda to Dublin bus on Wednesday.
“This week is all about having fun and saying thank you to the people who have helped make our company a success over the past decade, our passengers,” said Paddy Matthews.
Regular passenger Briege, who is from Kilconnor Road, Inniskeen, Dundalk, was delighted, if slightly stunned, by her unexpected windfall. “I’m just thrilled. Any travelling I do is by Matthews bus, they are a terrific company and they provide a really good service,” said Briege. “I might use the money to go on some of the luxury day trips and extended tours of Ireland and the UK which Matthews offer.”
MD Paddy Matthews, who founded the company with his wife Mary, thanked everyone who has travelled with them over the years.
“We would like to thank everyone that has used, and continues to use our services, and we look forward to welcoming you on board for the coming decades.”
