Sharon Fox, founder of The Socializers, a social media and computer training company, says social media know-how is vital for modern business

“However many people and companies are not using Social Media to its full potential, as an interactive, free flowing medium.

“Just having a Facebook page is not enough “, says Sharon “ the whole idea is that people continually interact with each other. People can learn about new friends and businesses can learn what the clients really want from their product or service and supply it as required.”

However immediate monitoring and constant interaction is crucial to make Facebook work really effectively.

“RTE’s Ryan Tubrity has 15,000 followers on Twitter. When he received a nasty comment recently, he was on the case and in control. He simply modified his Twitter account so that only comments that he approves of can now be posted and made public. “ Monitoring, modifying, innovative interaction and being creative when writing blogs is crucial in using Social Media effectively “, says Sharon.

With her BSc in Computer Applications and Support Sharon creates Facebook pages and also provides training to help people deal with any technical problems that may arise. She works with individuals and organisations including The Westenra Hotel in Monaghan, Iontas In Castleblayney, The Workhouse in Carrickmacross, Ballybay Development Association.

Sharon sees her return to education as a mature student as a bonus, she appreciates the value of learning and introducing people to new technology “I really enjoy giving the training workshops and teaching people about computers, the power of the Internet and Social Media and its ability to increase personal profiles and business profits.”
