Success in prestigious Irish lang

The junior debating team from Coláiste Rís, Dundalk, were absolutely delighted to be the chosen champions at the Regional Final of Comórtas Díospóireachta Uí Chadhain 2013, held in Longford on Wednesday, 5 December last.

The junior debating team from Coláiste Rís, Dundalk, were absolutely delighted to be the chosen champions at the Regional Final of Comórtas Díospóireachta Uí Chadhain 2013, held in Longford on Wednesday, 5 December last.

They went head to head with teams from Scoil Chuimsitheach Chiaráin, An Cheathrú Rua, Co.Galway, Coláiste Cholmcille, Indreabhán, Co.Galway, and Pobalscoil Ghaoth Dobhair, Co. Donegal in a lively debate. All the young Dundalk students had plenty to say against the motion ‘Is aoibhinn beatha an fheirmeora in Éirinn! ( Farmers in Ireland have a great life ! ), having been well-prepared by teacher Seán Ó Coigligh.

Such was the standard of debating, that the adjudicators had a difficult task in selecting the winners, but in the end announced that the Coláiste Rís orators would go forward, along with the Donegal team, Pobalscoil Ghaoth Dobhair, to the All-Ireland Final of the competition, due to be held in Dublin on Wednesday, 30 January 2013. Gael Linn presented awards to each speaker on the night, in recognition of the the high standard of debating achieved by all concerned.

This annual debating competition is organised by Gael Linn for gaelcholáistí and gaeltacht second level schools nationwide, and almost 50 teams have taken part since the beginning of the schoolyear. The event was the first of two regional finals at which the contestants for the 2013 All-Ireland Final will be selected - the second of which will take place in Brú Ború, Cashel, Co. Tipperary on Monday, 10 December 2012.
