ECONOMIC cuts and the funding of road repairs have led to the postponement of the Narrow Water Bridge project, according to a Northern Minister.

Dundalk Chamber of Commerce members met with Minister of Development at Stormont Danny Kennedy on Monday, February 27.

Mr Kennedy also met a delegation of Chamber of Commerce members from Warrenpoint, Burren Rostrevor, and Kilkeel.

The Minister, who was accompanied by local MLA John McCallister, had agreed to address the Chamber representatives who are lobbying for funding in connection with the proposed Narrow Water Bridge linking counties Louth and Down.

Mr Kennedy viewed a power point presentation prepared by the Warrenpoint Chamber outlining the benefits for both sides of the border in extra business and tourism.

He then advised the delegation that he would have to find in the region of £3 million to fund the Narrow Water Bridge project.

He did not rule out the funding but he said he could not give a guarantee at this time.
