Ardee BAFTA Awards night pulls them in at the Nuremore Hotel

A huge crowd of over 400 attended the annual BAFTA (Baile Ath Fhirdia Traders Association) awards ceremony last night Saturday in the Nuremore hotel Carrickmacross.

A huge crowd of over 400 attended the annual BAFTA (Baile Ath Fhirdia Traders Association) awards ceremony last night Saturday in the Nuremore hotel Carrickmacross.

It was a fantastic evening commencing with a mulled wine and champagne reception followed by a wonderful meal enjoyed by all.

The table quiz proved as popular as ever with the Ardee Active retirement table winning the prize on the night. Cabaret consisted of comedian Big O followed by a fund raising raffle with the winner Ruth Caffrey heading off for a luxurious break to Harveys Point in Co Donegal.

Then came the awards ceremony itself. Tom Muldoon from Brian Muldoon & Sons accepted the award for the Best Ice Bucket Challenge of 2014. Tom thanked everyone who supported this worthy cause.

Vera Commins who celebrated a very special birthday this week scooped the award for the Trader with the Secret of Eternal Youth.!

Congratulations to Deli-Licious from the Shanlis Road who won the award for the Best Newcomer. Best of luck to all there for 2015.

Audrey Callaghan fought off stiff competition from John Hennessey, Richard McDonnell, Pauric O’Connor and Thomas Kearney for the award of Happiest Trader in Ardee.

Coleman & Ann O’Flynn Pharmacy won the award for having The Friendliest Staff.

Ann thanked her customers and staff for their support in 2014.

In his closing address Chairman John Caffrey thanked especially the people of Ardee and surroundings for their support of local businesses and pointed out that a record €47,000 was spent this year on Ardee Town Vouchers.

John also thanked all who attended the BAFTAS and remarked how it has now become the social highlight of the year for many and also thanked his committee for all their work in organising this event and wished all businesses every success for 2015.

The excellent band Temptations entertained everyone till the wee small hours. See also p44 and p45.
