Former Fianna Fail TD for Louth Eddie Filgate has passed away at the age of 101.
Eddie served five years as a TD for the Louth constituency, from 1977 to 1982. He was re-elected twice, in 1981 and again in the February 1982 general election.
He did not contest the November 1982 election.
He had lived with his wife Eilish (who passed away in 1989) in Louth Village and they had five children. He was one of a family of eleven children.
He had turned 100 in September 2015.
Sitting Fianna Fail TD for Louth Declan Breathnach said this morning that Eddie was "a man who was incredibly proud to serve his county" and "a real wit" who will be missed dearly by all who knew him.
