Celebrity chef visits St Vincent's

TV chef Adrian Martin

Transition Year students in St.Vincent's school were treated to a day of culinary delights when television chef, blogger, and rising celebrity Adrian Martin visited the school to give cookery demonstrations and tips on healthy eating.
Known as 'Chef Adrian' the talented youth has featured on a number of shows including The Seven O'Clock show where he cooks with a Celebrity and his own show Chef Adrian Eats Ireland which can be found on RTE Player. His enthusiasm for cooking was evident throughout the day and the girls thoroughly enjoyed watching him prepare such delicious meals as confit of duck, chicken curry and pesto pizza. Indeed some lucky students were picked to help Adrian in the process.
Chef Adrian's mission is to inspire people to cook real food and he regularly hosts demonstrations for charities, sporting clubs and schools among others. Home Economics teacher Jacinta Monaghan was delighted with the response from students to the talented chef.
'Health and nutrition is so important to well-being and encouraging students to cook from scratch is a practical way to improve both aspects of their lives. Chef Adrian's good humour and down to earth approach was a huge hit with the TY students'.
Conditions such as Childhood Obesity and Type 2 Diabetes are growing at an alarming rate in Ireland and education is seen as a key component in the battle against these and other weight related illnesses.
The recent St.Vincent's 5km run was a huge success in the school, with lunchtime training sessions encouraging students to get fitter. A Healthy Living Week ran in conjunction with the run, promoting awareness around subjects such as quantities of sugar in processed foods and how to make healthier choices in lunch boxes and snacks.
