Neven Maguire supports the Cooley Christmas Market

AUTUMN days are busy days in the Cooley Country Market kitchens as plans are made for the next market on 4th December.

It’s a lovely time of anticipation and preparation. Exciting moments as after weeks of waiting, the humble blackberry is now ready to be picked and potted into beautiful jams.

Very soon, top quality fruits will be left to mature in Cooley’s finest whiskey as the great Christmas bake gets under way.

The organisers of the market are deeply appreciative of the support which they have received to date. Many donations of ingredients for the Christmas cakes and puddings have been received.

They are hoping that this is going to be their biggest and best market yet. They were thrilled to receive the support of the world famous Chef Neven Maguire.

He has donated the first prize for the raffle this Christmas. Some lucky couple will get to experience some of the best food and hospitality Ireland has to offer at his award- winning MacNean House and Restaurant in Blacklion, Co Cavan.

His restaurant is nestled in the picturesque foothills of the Cuilcagh Mountains in Co Cavan, near to the MacNean lakes that give the restaurant it’s name.

After enjoying Sunday lunch for two people, they can then move on savour another beautiful prize, kindly donated by The Slieve Russell Hotel. A night of comfort and relaxation awaits them in luxury 4 star accommodation in a tranquil setting.

This magnificient hotel is set in 300 acres including 50 acres of lakes.

The organisers of the market are so grateful and wish to thank Neven Maguire and The Slieve Russell Hotel for acknowledging the wonderful work of The Birches Alzheimer Day Care Centre in Dundalk and Rath Abbey, Grange, Carlingford.

Tickets are priced at just €2 for this fab prize. Many other prizes will be given away- hampers, vouchers, etc.

Tickets will be going on sale in all local shops in the coming weeks. Every €2 donated will go directly to provide care, support and understanding for those who live their lives with Alzheimer’s disease.

The draw will take place at Cooley Christmas Market, Cooley Parochial Hall, Co Louth on Sunday 4th Dec.

Anybody wishing to take a draw card to sell on behalf of The Birches, or to donate a prize to the raffle, contact Anne 086 3938289ins in Co Cavan, near to the MacNean lakes that give the restaurant it’s name.
