Sixty-six-year old Colette O’Hagan completed her 400th marathon on Saturday.
Colette secured the incredible achievement in Duleek, crossing the finish line with her daughter, Jacqueline who ran with her mother over the full 26 miles.
“This is a very emotional day for me,” said the North East Runners athlete afterwards.
“When I took part in the Women’s Mini-Marathon in Dublin back in 1990, I little thought that I would end up running 400 full marathons by age 66.
“Running has given me a whole new lease of life both mentally and physically and today is very special because I have family and friends here to help me celebrate this very important and satisfying milestone of my running career.”
Colette’s husband Larry was there at the finish line to greet her and he is now considering taking up a bit of light running.
“I had a quadruple heart bypass in May and I think that I am now ready to get exercising,” he said.
“We are all so proud of Collette and she is has become a wonderful inspiration to so many people over the years.”
