De La Salle celebrate first Gael Linn debating final win

The Regional Final of the Gael Linn Irish Debating Competition took place in Scoil Éanna, the school which Pádraig Pearse himself founded in Rathfarnham on Monday 25th January last.

In an historic site for the country, it turned out to be an historic night for De La Salle College, as they were victorious to advance to their first All-Ireland Debating Final. The debating team of John Marley, Emmanuel Ntemuse and Emmet Byrne gave outstanding performances on the evening, debating the motion, “Tá an bhliain scoil róghearr”, “The school year is too short”.

They beat strong competition from Loreto College, St. Stephen’s Green, Coláiste Chiaráin, Leixlip as well Dún Lughaidh, Dundalk to go through on the night.

The history of the night was not lost on their teacher Mr. Ó Náraigh, saying: “It is incredible for the boys to win the Regional Final here in Pádraig Pearse’s own school, one hundred years on in 2016. I am extremely proud of the effort they have put in”.

The All-Ireland Final will now take place on March 10th.
