Following an excellent run of form, the Westerns team secured their sixth win in a row in the Division 3 league against Dowdallshill.

This round nine clash pitted Westerns against Dowdallshill on a mild Thursday evening in Reaghstown. Without disappointing, this revved up Westerns team came out fighting straight from the off with a goal within the first 10 seconds from experienced player, Aidan McGarrell.

Dowdallshill looked stunned. This continued for the first half as the Westerns battered the Dowdallshill defence with point after point - nine scores went unanswered before the opposition could muster up a point.

Some fantastic scores by free kick expert Tommy Durnin spurred Westerns on while great points from play from Ciaran Campbell, Brian Martin, Trevor Baylon and Ciaran Scriven, extended the Westerns lead. The first half ended with the home side dominating Dowdallshill 1-9 to 0-1.

After a quick rest, both teams were ready to continue the match. It was Dowdallshill this time who put a score on the board first followed by two quick points by Tommy Durnin.

Dowdallshill followed with another point over the bar but the score didn’t reflect the efforts the away side were putting into the game.

A disoriented Dowdallshill team could only manage another two points in the second half to finish the game with a total of 0-5 to Westerns 3-16. A fine win for the home side as they move to fifth place in the league. Westerns now look forward to the next game against Sean McDermotts.
