The visitors registered the first score and both teams played very lively football during the first half trading points and contending for the ball around the middle of the field.

Both teams were neck and neck for much of the first half but a free from Derek Maguire broke the deadlock to give the Ireland’s a one point advantage going into the break.

The Ardee men’s purple patch came early in the second half, the impetus of which was added to with a lucky goal.

The Ireland’s battled on and a number of substitutions seemed to reinvigorate play for the home side.

Three consecutive points brought the Ireland’s within three points of the Mary’s, however the referee brought the game to a close with the Mary’s ultimately three points the better.

St Fechins overcame Clan Na Gael last Thursday night with a surging second half performance.

Clans opened with real intent and raised the green flag twice thanks to goals from Conall McKeever and a penalty from Drew Duffy.

That saw the home side leading by four clear points with just under ten minutes until the break.

Yet to their credit the visitors battled their way back in the dying minutes of the opening half and were just one point behind at the interval - 2-4 to 0-9.

Colm O’Neill got the second half off to a flying start for St Fechins when he blasted home their first goal of the match to lead by 1-9 to 2-5.

With the game tee’d up for a grandstand finish, the Fechins began to assert control thanks to three points in quick succession.

Clans never looked likely to reply as the game petered out with the visitors deserving winners in the end.
