Dowdallshill paid the price for the concession of two first half goals and a failure to convert goal chances of their own, as they succumbed to leaders Mc Dermotts in this clash in Mountrush.
Playing into a stiff breeze in the opening half, the visitors found scores impossible to come by.
After a closely fought opening 20 minutes, Mc Dermotts finished the half strongly, and two goals in the run-in to half time was enough to propel them into a 2-4 to 0-0 interval lead.
D’hill, with the breeze at their backs and driven-on by the returning Ciaran O’Callaghan who gave an outstanding performance at centrefield, found their shooting boots to reduce the arrears, while at the same time, Mc Dermotts struggled to cope with the elements.
Yet two missed goal opportunities were to prove costly for the ‘Hill, and ultimately, Mc Dermotts’ ability to convert their chances in front of goal in the first half, proved the big difference between the teams..
For Mc Dermotts, it was a fifth consecutive win, and one that returns them to the top of the table.
Best for D’hll were Ciaran O’Callaghan, Donal Sheridan, Noel Finnegan, Paul Gill and Eamon Duffy.
