A John Kermode penalty won the day for Newtown Blues against Cooley in Father McEvoy Park on Saturday night by 1-4 to 0-6.
In a game played in atrocious conditions, the first half was unsurprisingly a drab affair with Brian White and Conor Rafferty scoring Cooley’s only points.
Meanwhile Kermode and Stephen Moonan also pointed for the Blues to leave the game tied at two points all at the break. The second half was a more entertaining event as both sides began to open up. The Peninsula side notched up three scores thanks to White, Patrick McGrath and Rafferty.
But Robert Carr replied with a great score for the Drogheda men on 47 minutes and Kermode’s penalty won the day.
