St Anne’s 3-11 Collon 0-3

St Anne’s had a convincing win over Collon in the senior 9 a-side league.

Despite the score difference both sides were unwilling to concede ground in the first quarter and indeed it was Collon’s Rebecca Monaghan who registered the first score.

St Anne’s backs were to the wall at this stage, but as often happen in these situations they seem to lift their game and Collon could do little when defender Catriona Cantwell sent a long ball to forward Siobhan Dawdry who from the moment she gained possession knew exactly that the destination was the Collon net.

From here the pattern of the game was set and Dawdry added a further 1-1, followed by a goal from Denise Moynagh and points each from Adel Woods and Catriona Cantwell.

Collon added two points from Aileen Gilsenan and Jane McKeon, leaving them trailing by nine points at the interval.

The second half continued in a similar manner, St Anne’s added a further six points from Denise Moynagh and two points from Adel Woods.

St Bride’s 2-7 St Anne’s 2-2

St Bride’s recorded their first win in the 9 a-side senior league against an uninspiring St Anne’s team.

St Anne’s have been giving hot and cold performances throughout the season, and while they were without some key players, this was by far their coldest performance to date.

In contrast St Brides girls took to the task from the start in an efficient manner, making space and setting up many attacks and indeed were it not for the Togher defence particularly Dearbhla Connor who continually harassed and blocked the forwards and denied them further scores.

St Anne’s forwards did have limited possession but Siobhan Dawdry did score 1-1 in the first half leaving them trailing by one point at the interval.

St Bride’s continued the second half in blistering pace and soon hit the Togher net twice, with goals from Lisa Sherry and Aisling Ruddy.

There was a glimmer of hope for St Anne’s when Adel Woods broke through and scored a fine individual goal, this was followed by a point from the injured Denise Moynagh who came on shortly after the interval, but it was the St Brides willingness that totally superseded a very lack-lustre Togher side.
